Melton Borough Mental Health and Wellbeing Bulletin 4 April

1. NEW 'TIMELESS CONNECTIONS' DEMENTIA FRIENDLY CAFE OPENING 16th APRIL

We are delighted to announce a new weekly Dementia-friendly cafe opening in Melton on Wednesday 16th April. 'Timeless Connections' dementia friendly cafe will be run by Melton and Syston Vale Primary Care Network. It is a space designed to provide friendship, guidance, and respite for those living with dementia, their carers, and their families.

Date: Every Wednesday

Time: From 12.00 to 3.00

Venue: Melton Vineyard, The Hope Centre, Nottingham Street, Melton Mowbray, LE13 1NW

Cost: £3 person includes unlimited tea and coffee.

Food: reasonably priced food and snacks will be available.

We are incredibly fortunate to have specialist staff from Age UK, Alzheimer's Society, VASL, Active Melton, and our local area coordinators joining us over time. They will be on hand to provide expert advice, practical resources, and reassurance to those who need it. In addition, the café will feature monthly events such as live music sessions, games like dominoes and cards, and opportunities for reminiscence and engagement, ensuring that every visit brings a sense of joy and belonging. 2. NEW CANCER SUPPORT HUB OPEN IN MELTON

Our new Melton Mowbray Hub opened its doors for the first time on Friday, 28th March 2025. If you live in or around Melton Mowbray and have been affected by cancer—whether personally or as a family member, friend, or carer—we would love to welcome you. Our Cancer Support Hubs provide a friendly, relaxed space where you can:

  • Connect with others who understand
  • Access information and practical support
  • Build new social connections
  • Join in with relaxed activities and conversations

Date: Fourth Friday of every month

Time: 10.00-12.00

Venue: Hope Centre, 42-44 Nottingham Street, Melton Mowbray, LE13 1NW

No booking is needed—just drop in whenever you like! Whether you stay for the whole session or just pop by for a cuppa and a chat, you will find a warm welcome waiting for you. Our hubs are completely free to attend, and everyone is welcome. Many of our visitors tell us how much the hubs have helped improve their confidence, emotional well-being, and sense of connection. Now, we are excited to bring that same support to Melton Mowbray! Flyer attached.

3. PEPPER'S - WHAT'S ON IN APRIL

4. GoLEARN! MENTAL HEALTH COURSES IN MELTON

GoLearn is the Leicestershire Adult Learning Service which provides education opportunities to adults age 19+ across Leicestershire. To book a place call FREEphone 0800 988 0308.

5. MELTON BOROUGH MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING SERVICE - BI-WEEKLY DROP IN SESSIONS AT PEPPER'S and 121 SUPPORT SERVICE

Drop in at Peppers

We provide advice, navigation and community recovery support for adults. Join our twice monthly wellbeing sessions which will provide active signposting and action planning support to enable you to live life to the full.

Venue: Pepper's Café, King Street, Melton Mowbray

When: The second and fourth Friday of every month

Time: 12:30 – 2:30pm

One to one support

Run by Nottingham Community Housing Association this service provides one to one support, advice, navigation & community recovery support. We provide support to people with emotional or mental health needs and their carers aged 18+.

Recovery focused one-to-one support: We provide one-to-one support with a trained Worker, who will listen to you and work with you to improve your mental health and achieve your personal goals. This will enable you to live life to the full and take part in activities and opportunities along with everyone

Advice and guidance: A dedicated phone line and web chat available 9am-5.30pm Monday to Sunday, offering advice and support.

6. INVITATION TO COMMUNITY EVENT - BUCKMINSTER VILLAGE HALL 24th APRIL 10.30 - 12.00

We are pleased to invite you to a special event at Buckminster Village Hall on 24 April at 10:30 AM.

This gathering will bring together members of the local community, including residents from surrounding villages, Parish clerks, and local volunteers. It's a great opportunity for you to showcase your services, engage with the community, and share how you can support them.Our goal is to create connections that could lead to further opportunities, such as attending local coffee mornings and other community events where you can meet residents in a more informal setting. To make the event even more enjoyable, our Active Communities team will be bringing along lawn bowls and indoor curling, so there will be plenty of fun activities to take part in! 8. GOLF SESSIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH LONG-TERM CHALLENGING HEALTH CONDITIONS SUCH AS DEMENTIA AND PARKINSON'S

Perfect for Sport lovers with health conditions who want to stay active and care givers seeking a day care alternative. Suitable for those with Parkinson's, early onset and young on set dementia and stroke survivors. Not suitable for later stage dementia participants.

Venue: Beedles Lakes golf club

Days: Tuesdays

Time: 10-3.00

9. NEW WELLBEING WALK - BOTTESFORD, EVERY THIRD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH

Take a break, enjoy some fresh air, and boost your wellbeing with a friendly walk! Suitable for all abilities, this is a great opportunity to meet new people, stay active, and refresh your mind.

10. TRAINING - NEEDS OF BEREAVED CHILDREN

The Laura Centre are holding a Needs of Bereaved Children training day on Tuesday 17 June 2025.This specialist training day will help anyone working with children and young people to understand the complex needs of a bereaved child or young person from 5 - 25 years old. They will cover a range of topics that will help you to work better, and develop practical tools to support a bereaved child and to ensure that they get the best quality of care.

11. TRAINING - THE SOLIHUL APPROACH, NURTURING EMOTIONAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING FOR PARENTS, CARERS, GRANDPARENTS AND TEENS

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust and Leicester City Council Family Hubs have partnered with the Solihull Approach to offer free access to expertly designed online courses for parents, carers, grandparents and teens living in the region. The training specifically focusses on learning how to understand a child's feelings, including your own, as you traverse through family life.

12. TRAINING - NEURODIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE

The West Midlands Combined Authority are offering training sessions to raise awareness of neurodiversity in the workplace. There are training sessions available for employers, so they can learn the importance of embracing neurodiversity in the workplace, and also for staff working with neurodiverse individuals, so they can better support young people on their career pathway and into employment.

13. NHS 111 OPTION 2 - SURVEY

Do you have experience using the mental health option on NHS 111, or using the Mental Health Central Access Point, for either yourself or someone else?Leicestershire Partnership Trust (LPT) invite you to share your experience of the service in their recent survey.

14. NEW LEICESTERSHIRE AND RUTLAND SEXUAL HEALTH HUBA new Sexual Health Hub is launching this week in locations across Leicestershire and Rutland.

The new service will offer:

  • Free, confidential advice and education for all ages
  • Contraception information and advice including where to access emergency contraception
  • Access to STI testing and treatment at your local clinic
  • Access to Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), is a pill that protects you against HIV.

The service will be available at the following locations:

15. SPRING COVID-19 VACCINATIONS NOW AVAILABLE TO BOOK

Those at increased risk from severe illness can get the spring Covid-19 vaccine, including those aged 75 or over, people with a weakened immune system, people who live in an older adult care home or those who are housebound. To help make it as easy as possible to get vaccinated all eligible people are able to book a vaccination appointment in advance for Tuesday 1 April onwards.

If you or anyone in your care is eligible, you do not need to wait for an invitation to book your vaccine. To book, please visit the NHS App, the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/book-vaccine or call 119 for free. You may also be able to visit a walk-in vaccination clinic which does not require a booking.
